About .com-domain name
.com is the most widely used top-level domain worldwide. It's so popular that for many people, it's synonymous with the internet itself. Out of the 183 million domain names registered by June 2009, a whopping 80 million were .com domain names.
Having your own .com website still leaves the most professional impression. This makes a .com website essential for any business targeting the international market, whether it's a commercial or non-commercial enterprise, or even a hobby website.
History
.com was one of the original six extensions launched together in 1985. Alongside .com were .edu, .gov, .mil, .net, .org, and .arpa. The idea was that each extension would serve a different purpose and audience: for example, .edu was intended for educational sites, .gov for government websites, and .com was meant as an extension for businesses.
In the mid-90s, the rules became less strict, and VeriSign, the administrator of .com, decided to open .com for any type of registration. Since then, the domain can be registered without restrictions. In practice, it is used for a very diverse range of websites.
A Concept
During the explosive growth of online businesses at the end of the 20th century, .com became such a concept that 'dot-com' earned a spot in various English dictionaries. The term 'dot-com bubble' also became widely accepted. This term refers to the period from 1997 to 2001, when countless internet companies were founded, and the growth of online commerce seemed unstoppable.
Since the 'dot-com bubble,' it's also common for some (internet) companies to add '.com' to their company name. Examples include bol.com and Amazon.com. So, it's safe to say that this domain extension has truly become a cultural phenomenon.

When you've just ordered a domain name or hosting, you naturally want to get started right away. A domain name is registered immediately after your order. In most cases your domain name is actually active within a few hours. For some extensions it can take a little longer, 24 to 48 hours.

A premium domain name is a domain name that is worth considerably more than a non-generic domain name. That's why it's called Premium. Premium domain names come in two variants:
- Domain names from older extensions with a very good generic name, such as auto.nl or candy.com, that have been registered for many years. Because these domain names have already built up a lot of 'value' and are very generic, they're worth much more money in a sale than a non-generic domain name.
- New gTLD domain names, involving a very generic name or company name that isn't registered yet but is expected to gain a lot of value. The registration price of these domain names can run up to several thousand euros. Examples of such premium domain names are gold.watch or healthy.club.
