What is a premium domain name?

A premium domain name is a domain name that is worth a lot more than a non-generic domain name. That is why it is called Premium.

Premium domain names come in two variants:

  • Domain names of older extensions with a very good generic name, such as auto.nl or candy.com, which have been registered for years. Because these domain names have already built up a lot of 'value', and are very generic, they are worth a lot more money when sold than a non-generic domain name.
  • New gTLD domain names, which concern a very generic name or company name that has not yet been registered, but which is expected to gain a lot of value. The registration price of these domain names can amount to several thousand euros. Examples of such premium domain names are gold.watch or healthy.club.

Who determines if a domain name is Premium?

Whether a domain name is premium is determined by the registry of the relevant extension. This is therefore not determined by us.

Often, these premium domain names meet the following conditions:

  • The domain name is short
  • The domain name is easy to remember
  • The domain name is easy to spell
  • The domain name is generic
  • The domain name is related to a product and has a high commercial value
  • The domain name is in the language of the corresponding extension (TLD)
  • The domain name corresponds to a place name
