About .nu domain name
.nu is the top-level domain for Niue, an island in Polynesia connected to New Zealand. It's also used as an alternative to generic TLDs like .com and .net.
Dutch and English websites with a .nu extension give a sense of urgency. With a .nu extension, you show that your website is living in the now.
History
.nu is a relatively young extension: it was launched in 1997. From the start, it was never promoted as a ccTLD for Niue, but as a generic TLD, an alternative to domains like .com, .net, and .org, many of which already have taken names.
The worldwide popularity of .nu provided a nice extra income for the island, whose population was less than 1,500 in 2009. The money from the initial registration was used to fund free wireless internet for all island residents.
Usage
As a generic TLD, .nu is mainly used in Sweden, Denmark, the Netherlands, and Belgium, because all these countries have the word 'nu' in their languages. For English-speaking countries, the extension is also appealing because the English pronunciation of 'nu' sounds like the word 'new'. In Sweden, it was particularly popular until 2003, because the rules for registering a .se domain (Sweden's ccTLD) were strict, making it difficult to register a .se domain.

How do I transfer my domain name to my.host?
Do you have a domain somewhere else and want to transfer it to my.host? You need a transfer code or authorization code from your current provider. For some domains you also need to turn off the domain lock.
Log in to the control panel, search for your domain name and click transfer. Then enter the transfer code and check out. For .nl domains the transfer is immediate; for extensions such as .com, .net and .info it can take up to 5 days.
