About .nl-domain name
.nl is the top-level domain for the Netherlands. Although small in size, the Netherlands is big in international trade. The country is globally known for its progressiveness, tolerance, individuality, and business acumen.

History
.nl was the first ccTLD (country code top-level domain). It was launched in 1986 with the registration of the website https://www.cwi.nl by Piet Beertema of the CWI (Centrum voor Wiskunde en Informatica). This made the Netherlands the second country to join the internet, after the United States. The first .nl domain, https://www.cwi.nl, is still active, by the way.
Administrator
Beertema remained the administrator of .nl until 1996. In that year, he handed over control to SIDN (Stichting Internet Domeinregistratie Nederland), of which Beertema was one of the three founders.
Availability
In June 2009, there were no less than 3,440,890 domains registered, making the extension the 4th most popular ccTLD, after .cn, .de, and .uk. However, there are still many interesting .nl domains available for registration.
A .nl domain can easily be registered by any company or individual with a postal address in the Netherlands.
