Until now, all my.host services ran in the Netherlands. Today we are adding three locations: Copenhagen (Denmark), Dublin (Ireland) and Brussels (Belgium). When you order a VPS or hosting package, you now choose which country your data is stored in.
It is the next step in our expansion in Europe. After launching my.host and opening our office in Copenhagen, we promised our Danish customers servers in their own country. They are here now, and Ireland and Belgium are joining right away.
Why the location of your data matters
Which laws apply to your data depends on two things: who your provider is and where your data is stored. A large share of European data sits with American cloud providers. Under the US CLOUD Act, American authorities can require those companies to hand over data, even when it is stored in a European data center.
But the country matters within Europe too. The GDPR applies across the EU, and on top of that each country has its own rules, for example on supervision, retention periods or requirements for government and healthcare. Choose a data center in the country where you or your customers are based, and the local rules apply.
Then there is speed. The closer your server is to your visitors, the shorter the distance data travels and the lower the latency. A website for Danish visitors therefore loads faster from a server in Copenhagen than from a server in the Netherlands. You notice this most with web shops and applications where every millisecond counts.
Four locations
- The Netherlands, Naaldwijk and Amsterdam
- Denmark, Copenhagen (new)
- Ireland, Dublin (new)
- Belgium, Brussels (new)
Every location gives you the same platform, the same control panel and the same support from our own team.
What can you do with it?
Virtual Private Server
When configuring your VPS, you choose between the Netherlands, Belgium, Ireland and Denmark under Location. In the control panel, you then see for each VPS in which country and city its data center is located. This works for both managed and unmanaged VPS.

Web hosting
You also choose the location when ordering a hosting package. Your website, databases and email are then stored in the country you choose.
You make this choice in your shopping cart:

You can currently choose a different location for the following services:
- Web hosting
- WordPress hosting
- Email hosting
For Reseller packages and AI Website Builder packages, it is not yet possible to choose a location other than the Netherlands.
Who is this useful for?
- Businesses with customers in these countries. Do you run a web shop or application for Denmark, Ireland or Belgium? Then your data is stored in the same country as your customers. That is often faster, and easy to explain to your customers.
- Organisations with data storage requirements. Does a customer, a tender or your own policy require storage in a specific country? Then you simply arrange it when ordering.
- Developers who want to spread their setup. Put a second VPS in another country, for example for backups or failover, without adding a second provider.
What does this mean for existing customers?
Nothing changes for your current services: they keep running in the Netherlands, at the same prices. The Netherlands also remains the default location for new orders. If you don’t choose anything, your data is stored in the Netherlands.
