Here is the fifth edition of our development blog. October was focused on server locations in Europe, Payment Service for Danish customers, and .sr domains directly with the registry. Additionally, ordering international domain names became much more reliable.

Major updates

October mainly had four major updates: choosing a server location yourself, Payment Service in Denmark, .sr via Datasur, and domain names with special characters. More below.

Server locations

With a VPS or hosting package, you can now choose where your data is located. In addition to the Netherlands, these are Copenhagen, Dublin, and Brussels. In the overview, you can see the country and location of the data center.

Why that location matters, for legislation and for speed, we wrote in a separate news article.

Payment Service

Danish customers can set up a Payment Service authorization via GoCardless in the control panel. Future invoices will then be automatically debited from the account. A new authorization replaces the previous one.

.sr via Datasur

After SIDN (.nl), DNS Belgium (.be), Internetstiftelsen (.nu and .se), Punktum (.dk) and Norid (.no), new .sr registrations and transfers are now also directly via Datasur, the registry of Suriname, without an intermediary. Datasur approves every request itself. Until the registry reports the domain as active, it remains in process with us. This allows us to register and manage .sr domains much faster.

International domain names

A domain name with special characters, an international domain name (IDN), can now be added to the shopping cart. Names with, for example, ü, ß or ς remain the domain you type. We store the name correctly and display it legibly.

Virtual Private Servers

  • The root password of an unmanaged VPS is no longer sent via email. You choose a password or an SSH key yourself.
  • Spaces at the beginning or end of a hostname are removed.

API

  • With a .no domain, you can see in the availability check whether the trustee service is possible and what it costs per year. You confirm this price at the order.
  • For .dk, .se, .nu, and .no without a trustee, the registry agreement must already be accepted. You do this once under Account > Agreements. Each .no registration also has its own Norid declaration, which you can download as a PDF.
  • Post-payment is enabled via the API automatically based on previously paid invoices. Without paid invoices, this option remains off. As you pay more, the limit grows with it.

Other updates and bugfixes

Domain names / DNS

  • The default DNS zone follows the site where you order. my.host uses a Dutch server, /dk the Danish one, and my.host, /no, and /se a shared international server. If you choose a template yourself, or if the domain is linked to hosting, that choice remains.
  • In an internal transfer, the DNS of the previous owner remains until the transfer is accepted. Then, the zone is replaced by the template of the new order.
  • A canceled .se or .nu domain remains active until the end of the paid period.
  • For .swiss, we ask for the required usage purpose during the order.
  • Error messages during ordering are more specific. You see if the registry wants an organization as a holder, a business URL, or a birth date is missing, or if the transfer code is incorrect.

Ordering and invoices

  • In the control panel, you can save a Revolut card. This is done via a verification payment, without creating a separate order for it.
  • We only apply reverse charge VAT if your VAT number is approved.

Privacy and website

  • The privacy statement and the trust center have been updated to the version of October 2026. Among other things, it includes the AI services we use. The retention period for fiscal data is ten years.
  • We only write campaign data to a cookie if you have accepted advertising cookies.

In summary

And that was October: a dedicated server location for VPS and hosting, Payment Service for Denmark, .sr directly with Datasur, and domain names with special characters that are correct from shopping cart to expiry date.

And as usual: do you have questions or a good idea? We would love to hear it. Submit it as an idea in the feedback module, as a comment on this blog, or simply via a support ticket. Hopefully, we’ll see you again next month for a new dev blog!
