WordPress is a powerful platform on its own, but it’s the plugins that truly make it suitable for entrepreneurs. With the right plugins, you can transform a simple site into a professional online machine that generates sales, builds customer loyalty, and grows your business.
In this article, I discuss the 10 plugins that, in my opinion, every Dutch entrepreneur should consider. I have consciously chosen plugins that are relevant to the Dutch market (think of iDEAL integration, GDPR compliance, etc.) and they are generally plugins that I use for my own WordPress websites.
1. Rank Math SEO (search engine optimization)

Active installations: 3+ million
User rating: 4.9/5 (7,000+ reviews)
Cost: Freemium (free version is already powerful, Pro from $7.99/month)
Rank Math SEO is a comprehensive SEO plugin that helps you get found better on Google. The plugin has a free version that is more extensive than the paid variant of many of its competitors. Despite this extensive functionality, Rank Math is super lightweight, so the plugin barely impacts your website’s speed.
Key features:
- Comprehensive content analysis. Get concrete tips per page to improve your SEO.
- Schema Markup. Easy implementation of rich snippets for FAQs and HowTos.
- Local SEO. Optimize your business for local search results.
- WooCommerce integration. Specific optimizations for webshops.
- User-friendly interface. Beginners can also handle it.
The nice thing about Rank Math is that you instantly see where your content can be further improved (thanks to the AI functionality). The plugin provides concrete suggestions that you can apply immediately.
2. WPForms – (forms)

Active installations: 6+ million
User rating: 4.8/5 (13,500+ reviews)
Cost: Freemium (Lite free, Pro from $49.50/year)
Contact forms are essential for every business website. WPForms makes creating forms child’s play with their drag & drop builder.
Why WPForms:
- No programming knowledge required. Drag and drop elements where you want them.
- GDPR-friendly. Easily create GDPR-compliant forms.
- Spam protection. Built-in anti-spam with reCAPTCHA.
- Responsive. Forms look good on all devices.
- Templates: Predefined, beautifully designed templates to get started quickly.
The free version is very usable for contact forms. If you want advanced features such as conditional logic or payment integrations, the Pro version is worth the investment.
3. Complianz (privacy & cookies – GDPR)

Active installations: 1+ million
User rating: 4.8/5 (1,600+ reviews)
Cost: Freemium (free version, Premium from €49/year)
The GDPR is not an option but an obligation. Complianz helps make your website GDPR-compliant without legal headaches.
Key features:
- Region detection. Automatically adapts the cookie banner per region (GDPR, CCPA, etc.)
- Automatic cookie scan. Detects cookies on your site and adds them to the policy
- Legal documents. Generates drafts for cookie policy and privacy statements.
- Integrations. Works together with Google Analytics, Tag Manager, and social media plugins.
As Dutch entrepreneurs, unfortunately, we cannot avoid GDPR compliance. Complianz takes a lot of work off your hands and ensures that you comply with the regulations.
4. All-in-One WP Migration – Backups & Migration

Active installations: 5+ million
User rating: 4.5/5 (7,300+ reviews)
Cost: Freemium (free up to 512MB, paid extensions for larger sites)
Link: All-in-One WP Migration
Backups are essential, and so important for your peace of mind that you don’t want to rely solely on the backups of your hosting provider. All-in-One WP Migration makes exporting and importing your complete WordPress site a breeze.
Why this plugin:
- Ease of use. Export your site with one click.
- Complete backup. Including database, media, plugins, and themes.
- No technical knowledge needed. Suitable for all user levels.
- Migration-friendly. Ideal for moving to a new host.
- Automatic cloud backups. With the paid version.
The free version is perfect for smaller sites or sites that are not “mission-critical”. For larger websites, there are paid extensions that integrate with cloud storage like Google Drive and Dropbox.
5. LiteSpeed Cache (caching & speed)

Active installations: 7+ million
User rating: 4.8/5 (2,500+ reviews)
Cost: Free
Speed increasingly determines whether visitors stay on your site. LiteSpeed Cache is a powerful all-in-one plugin that can dramatically speed up your site for sites running on LiteSpeed servers.
Are you with a hosting provider that doesn’t use LiteSpeed? Then check out the hosting packages from my.host.
Key features:
- Server-level caching. Very efficient on LiteSpeed servers.
- Image optimization. Automatic compression without quality loss (you don’t need an extra plugin for this).
- Lazy loading. Images only load when needed.
- QUIC.cloud CDN. Free CDN for a website that loads super fast worldwide.
- Optimization presets. Set up with one click, handy if all those speed optimization terms mean nothing to you.
- Database optimization. Cleans up old data.
If your host uses LiteSpeed servers, this plugin is a game changer. Otherwise, FlyingPress or WP Rocket are good alternatives.
6. Wordfence Security (security)

Active installations: 5+ million
User rating: 4.7/5 (4,000+ reviews)
Cost: Freemium (free version is already robust, Premium from $119/year)
Wordfence Security offers a comprehensive set of security measures to protect your WordPress site.
Main features:
- Web Application Firewall. Blocks malicious traffic.
- Malware scanner. Checks files for threats.
- Brute force protection. Prevents password attacks.
- Two-factor authentication. Extra security layer for logging in.
- Live monitoring. Insight into who visits your site.
The free version already offers solid protection. For business-critical websites, the Premium version with real-time updates is worth the investment.
(For the record: with a poorly secured web host, a security plugin won’t help much. Therefore, choose a reliable provider like my.host.)
