The internet and ICT sector are responsible for a lot of electricity consumption. As a hosting provider, we are part of that industry, but we happily take responsibility and do our best to minimize our negative impact as much as possible. That’s why we already offer exclusively 100% green hosting and have taken several initiatives to keep our footprint minimal.

As a hosting provider, my.host tries to go a step further. That’s why we have partnered with WeForest, an organization committed to combating global warming as much as possible by planting and protecting trees, and goes a step further by helping communities with innovative and sustainable solutions for landscape restoration.

About WeForest

WeForest is a non-profit organization based in Belgium, committed to benefiting the climate, the planet, and people. They have multiple projects worldwide for planting biodiverse forests and help local communities combat poverty. They do this by addressing the root causes of local deforestation and developing viable economic alternatives for local communities.

Planting trees is the best technology to remove CO₂ from the atmosphere and combat global warming. Of course, preventing CO₂ emissions is best, which is something we, as a hosting provider, strive hard to achieve. Trees not only provide natural storage for CO₂ but are also important for fertile soil and improving the water cycle and biodiversity. Besides benefits for nature, forested areas also provide sustainable income for local populations, as they create a micro-economy and local entrepreneurship.

WeForest currently has projects running in several countries around the world, including Brazil, Ethiopia, Tanzania, Zambia, and Argentina. Since its inception, they have planted over 80 million trees and aim to plant 100 million trees by 2025. WeForest’s results and finances are transparent and publicly available, the 2022 annual report can be viewed online.

Collaboration with WeForest

Through our collaboration with WeForest, we aim to make a positive contribution as a hosting provider. We have chosen to financially support their project in Desa’a, Ethiopia. This project is part of the Great Green Wall which aims to combat climate change and further expansion of the Sahara desert by protecting biodiversity and planting trees. The WeForest project in Desa’a is also recognized by the United Nations in the list of 50 initiatives for ecosystem restoration.

Through our contribution, over 6000 trees will be planted and protected in this area, and multiple families will be assisted in earning an income through sustainable agriculture and other activities, such as beekeeping.

Greenest hosting provider in the Netherlands

my.host aims to be the greenest hosting provider in the Netherlands. As an organization, we find it important to commit ourselves fully to this goal. Through this collaboration, we are one step closer to achieving our goal. Besides offering exclusively green hosting, we are making various efforts to become the greenest hosting provider in the Netherlands. More about the steps we have already taken can be found on our sustainability page.
