The internet and IT sector are responsible for a lot of electricity use. We're part of that industry, but we're happy to take our responsibility and do what we can to reduce our negative impact. That's why we only offer 100% green hosting. Besides providing green hosting, we go one step further: we've taken several initiatives to keep our “footprint” as small as possible.
Only green hosting
Green hosting means that your hosting plan runs on a server in a data center powered by 100% renewable energy. All the hosting we offer meets this standard and is green hosting by default.
Our servers are located in the Equinix AM6 data center in Amsterdam. We specifically chose this data center because it makes several efforts in the area of sustainability: Equinix also aims to be climate neutral as early as 2030. Read about the certifications and efforts of Equinix AM6 below.
We only use modern HP servers (Gen10 servers), which use electricity more efficiently than older models. HP scores highly in the area of sustainability according to a study by Greenpeace. HP also aims to be climate neutral by 2040.

Temperature and residual heat
Work is currently underway to supply the residual heat from the AM6 data center to homes and buildings in part of Overamstel in Amsterdam.
This is the first project in Amsterdam where heat from a data center is used on a large scale as a source for a collective low-temperature heating and cooling network (source).
Equinix also recently raised the temperature of its data centers to reduce energy consumption. By cooling less with cooling equipment and using outside air, the temperature in the data centers rises to 27 degrees. This has no consequences for the equipment, but makes a considerable difference in electricity use (source).

We've entered into a collaboration with WeForest, an organisation dedicated to combating global warming as much as possible by planting and protecting trees, but which goes one step further by helping communities with innovative and sustainable solutions for restoring forest landscapes.
Through our collaboration with WeForest we try to make a positive contribution as a hosting provider. Thanks to our contribution, more than 6,000 trees are planted and protected and several families are helped to earn an income through sustainable agriculture and other activities, such as beekeeping.
