How do I create a domain pointer?
A domain pointer offers you the possibility to have multiple domain names point to the same website. This way, you only have to build the website once! Ideal when you have a Belgian domain name in addition to a Dutch one for the same website. We distinguish between a domain pointer and a domain alias. In this article we explain how creating a domain pointer or alias works. To do this, first log in to the of mijn.host.
After you are logged in, click on in the left menu and select the hosting package to which the domain name is linked. After this, click in the menu under the name of the package on 'Domain names > Domain names'.
The control panel now shows you the button to create a new domain pointer or a domain alias. Click the button to get started.
The control panel now shows you a list of your domain(s). If necessary, you can also add the domain first via the 'Add domain name' button. Once you have chosen a domain to which the pointer must be added, click the 'Add alias or pointer' button below the domain. In the pop-up, set the type to 'Pointer'. And then enter the domain for which the pointer must be created in the 'Domain name' field.
Domain pointer or alias?
With a domain pointer, the chosen domain name is redirected to the main domain. You can compare this to a -redirect. In the case of a domain alias, the referring domain name remains in the address bar, but you see the website that is placed on the main domain. A domain alias can be interesting when you have a .be domain name in addition to a .nl domain name. In this case, you do not want to redirect the Belgian visitors to the .nl domain name, but you do want to show them the same website.
After adding a domain pointer or alias, it will appear under the domain name to which the pointer or alias points.
