Fix DirectAdmin "Domain already exists" error

Are you trying to add a domain in DirectAdmin but getting a message that the domain already exists? Then the domain is already configured somewhere else on the server, we will go over the different possibilities below.

Domain already exists in your package due to a pointer or alias.

It is possible that you already have the domain name as a pointer or alias in your package. If so, remove the pointer or alias first. You can do this in DirectAdmin.

Log into DirectAdmin

Go to Account Manager in the Menu. And click on Domain Pointers.

da-domain-pointer

Select the domain name you want to remove as an alias or pointer.

Click on remove / delete.

da-delete-pointer

You can now add the domain name the normal way.

Domain has the forwarder enabled

Check in the control panel if a forwarder is enabled, turn it off and let it process. Once this is turned off, you should be able to add the domain in the hosting package.

Domain is in another hosting package

If the domain is under another hosting package on the same server, you cannot add it again, otherwise the server will not know to which of the 2 domains visitors should be directed.

Solve this by removing the domain from the other package or renaming it, renaming can be done via the DirectAdmin domain management page.

If it still does not work or if you cannot figure it out, you can always contact our support department.
