Connecting via SFTP in FileZilla
When you have purchased a web hosting package for your domain name, you can upload your website files via SFTP. In this article, we explain how to easily upload your website files using the SFTP program Filezilla.
SFTP is based on the SSH protocol (Secure Shell). This ensures all data is sent via an encrypted connection. An unencrypted connection with SSH is therefore ruled out. We therefore recommend the use of SFTP. All modern clients now support SFTP, including common open source programs such as FileZilla, SmartFTP and Cyberduck.
Create an FTP account
Through our control panel you can easily create an FTP account, which is also suitable for SFTP. See this article on how to create an FTP account.
Install FileZilla on your computer
Download the FileZilla client on the website of Filezilla. Then run through the installation process so that FileZilla is installed on your computer.
Create an SFTP connection via FileZilla
Via the Site Manager you can set up a new connection. Enter the following details here:
Protocol: SFTP
Host: yourdomain.extension
Username: username@yourdomain.extension
Password: yourpassword
Port: 22
See the example below in FileZilla:
