Connect an external domain name to your hosting package

If you have ordered a domain name from another provider (or registrar), you can still use our hosting package. It is possible to link our nameservers to an external domain name. You can easily arrange this via our control panel at https://mijn.host/cp/.

Add domain name

Our systems must of course know that your external domain name belongs to a hosting package that was purchased from us. Therefore, you need to add a domain name via our control panel. Under 'hosting', click on your package (in our case that is 'Hosting Package Starter').

You will then enter the overview of your hosting package. Click on 'Domain names' in the left menu.

At the top of the screen, an orange button will appear with the text 'Add domain name'. Click on this button. Next, enter the name of your domain name and click on 'add'.

Change nameservers at external provider

If your domain name is hosted externally, you need to provide our nameservers to the registrar of your domain name. These nameservers are not the same for every customer. For this reason, it is necessary to check the email you received from us. When ordering your hosting package, you received information in the delivery email about which nameservers you should use. You enter these at the external registrar.

Alternative: Change DNS records

We recommend using the method above. If this is not possible, it is also possible to only add the IP addresses to the DNS settings of the domain name at your current provider. These can be found in our control panel when you click on your package. You will find the IP address under the 'specifications' box within your hosting package.

You need to enter this data at the external registrar of your domain name. The first IP address is an IPv4 address, for which you need to create an A record in the DNS settings. The second IP address you see is the IPv6 address, you can also add this as an AAAA record in the DNS settings.

How exactly this works depends on the registrar and therefore varies per party. In any case, it is necessary to change the A records of your domain name to the IP address you found in our control panel. Once these are linked, it can take up to 24 hours for the data to be processed. This has to do with DNS caching, meaning your browser might still retrieve the old records for a while.
