How do I add an IPv6 address to DirectAdmin on my VPS?

By default, you get a "/64" IPv6 block on your VPS. In this manual, we explain how you can add this in DirectAdmin and "link" it to your IPv4 address.

Linking ensures that your IPv4 and IPv6 addresses work together. This is the best way to add your IPv6 address. It also ensures that IPv4 requests are forwarded to IPv6 and vice versa.

Below we explain how to do this.

Adding IPv6:
  1. Log in to your VPS in DirectAdmin as an administrator.
  2. Go to Server Manager -> IP Management
  3. Click on the tab: Devices
  4. Add the IPv6 address by clicking on the dots on the right and then: Add IP
  5. Your IPv6 address is now added. We now only need to link the IPv6 address.
  6. In the IPs tab, click on the global/server IPv4 address:
  7. Click on: + LINK IP
  8. Choose the IPv6 address from the list. And then click on LINK.
  9. You are now done and your IPv6 is working. The DNS, Apache, and other files will now be updated automatically. The IPv6 will also be added to all existing accounts on your server.
Do not forget to update your SPF record if you use external DNS/NS.
This IPv6 address will also need to be included, otherwise you may experience email issues.
