How do I organize my reseller package?

It is best to set up the structure at the beginning because adjusting it afterwards is quite a bit of work.

The advantages of a good structure in your reseller package:

• Every user has their own login and management environment.
• It is more secure because your users are separated.
• Each user has their own resources, so you get the maximum out of your package.

What is the best structure?

At mijn.host, every reseller package has its own dedicated resources for users/customers. So every user in your reseller package has their own CPU/RAM but also their own PHP settings and their own databases. We therefore recommend creating a user for every customer/website.

The structure can best be viewed as follows:

There is 1 main account (your reseller account) where you can manage your own website. And for your customers/websites you create separate users and give them a hosting package. With your reseller account, you have the option to log in to your users to support them or to install programs.

This structure also gives you a good overview of your customers/users in your user overview.

Why separate users?

As mentioned earlier, every user you create has their own dedicated resources. When you place all your customers' domains under 1 user (your reseller user, for example), they fall under 1 user, and all websites use the same resources. The more sites, the fewer resources per site.

If you change the PHP version for 1 website, you also change it for all websites that fall under that user. That is why it is more convenient to create separate users. This way, your users have the most resources and other sites/customers are not affected by PHP changes.

If you create separate users, each of your customers has their own login and management environment in your package. This allows you to provide your customers with their own login for their websites, and customers can manage the package and thus the site themselves. Of course, as a reseller, you do have the option to help and support the customer.

It is also safer to give all customers their own account. You create an isolated environment for each customer that cannot influence or reach other sites. If a site were to use all resources for whatever reason, your other customers would not be affected. Also, some customers will specifically ask for their own isolated account due to GDPR legislation.

How do you create the structure?

Before you start creating users, you create packages. You can see how to do that here: Create reseller packages in DirectAdmin

Start by creating your own reseller website/domain.

• You log in to DirectAdmin and in the menu you switch to 'User' level.

  

• Now go in the menu to 'Account manager' → 'Domain Setup'.
• Click on 'Add New' and add your reseller domain name. (you can of course add more if you want)

Now you can manage/create your own website, SSL, and e-mail accounts. Via Softaculous you can install programs or you can create a node.js or python application.

After this you can create the users. You do this as a reseller, so switch back to 'Reseller' in the menu.
