Create and restore a snapshot
In CloudStack you can easily create and restore a snapshot of your entire instance.
Create snapshot
- Log in to CloudStack
- Go to Compute > Instances and click on the instance you want to create a snapshot for
- Click on Take Instance Snapshot in the top right
- Enter a name for your snapshot in the next screen.
Snapshot memory must be turned off, as this is not supported.
With Quiesce Instance you temporarily freeze all disk I/O, which can be useful if there are many write operations. - The snapshot is now being created. You can find it under Compute > Instance Snapshots.
Restore snapshot
If you have previously created a snapshot, you can easily restore it.
- Before you can restore a snapshot to your instance, you must first stop the instance
- Next, go to Compute > Instance Snapshots and click on the button next to the snapshot name. Then click on the second icon, as shown in the screenshot below.
- The snapshot is now being restored. When this is completed, you can start the instance again.
