Create and restore a snapshot

In CloudStack you can easily create and restore a snapshot of your entire instance.

Create snapshot

  1. Log in to CloudStack
  2. Go to Compute > Instances and click on the instance you want to create a snapshot for
  3. Click on Take Instance Snapshot in the top right
    Create instance snapshot
  4. Enter a name for your snapshot in the next screen.
Snapshot memory must be turned off, as this is not supported.
With Quiesce Instance you temporarily freeze all disk I/O, which can be useful if there are many write operations.
    Create snapshot
  5. The snapshot is now being created. You can find it under Compute > Instance Snapshots.

Restore snapshot

If you have previously created a snapshot, you can easily restore it.

  1. Before you can restore a snapshot to your instance, you must first stop the instance
  2. Next, go to Compute > Instance Snapshots and click on the button next to the snapshot name. Then click on the second icon, as shown in the screenshot below.
    Restore snapshot
  3. The snapshot is now being restored. When this is completed, you can start the instance again.
