How to add a domain name to Microsoft 365?

This knowledge base article explains how to add a domain in Microsoft 365. You do this because it is necessary for Microsoft 365 to verify your domain name. Next, you add a series of DNS records from Microsoft 365 to the DNS settings of your domain name. 

Add your domain name to Microsoft 365

 

Step 1

Log in via: https://portal.office.com. Go to the Microsoft 365 dashboard, then click on Admin on the left side and then select Show all in the left bar.

Then click on Settings in the left bar and then on Domains.

Step 2

You are now in the overview screen of all domain names. To add your new one, click on Add domain.

Step 3

Enter the desired domain name you want to add to Microsoft 365 here. We use uw-domein.nl as an example here. Once you have entered the domain name, you can click on Use this domain.

Verifying the domain name

Step 1

Microsoft needs to verify whether you are actually the owner of the domain name being linked. This can be done in three ways, we will do the verification via TXT Record. Select the top option and then click on Continue.

You will now see the values of the TXT Record that you need to add within the Control Panel of mijn.host.

 

 

Step 2

Log in to the Control Panel of mijn.host via the following link: https://mijn.host/cp/

Click on Domain names and then on the notepad icon on the right to access the DNS settings by clicking on DNS Settings.

 

 

Step 3

Next, you will arrive on the page where you need to add the TXT Record. The values you need to add are:

Name: Leave empty

Value: MS=ms66882513

TTL: 3600

Click on Add new record, then add the TXT Record and click on Save. 

 

 

Step 4

Now that the TXT Record has been added, it is time to go back to the management environment of Microsoft 365 to complete the verification. Click on Verify to verify. This process may take a few minutes.

After the verification is completed, click on Continue.

Step 6

Now go back to the DNS Settings page of mijn.host and click at the bottom right of the page on Options. After this, the following option will appear: Activate Microsoft 365 for domain name.

Then click on OK to apply the changes. Please note that DNS changes can take 1 to 2 hours.
