Standard email ports for IMAP, POP and SMTP

Are you struggling with setting up your email? In this article, we explain everything about email settings, email ports, and even how to activate SSL on your mail server.

To start, enter the domain name (without 'www.' or 'https://') you will use for setting up the mail in the field below:

Did you not fill in the 'Domain name' field at the top of this page?
If so, replace [uw-domein.nl] with your own domain.

Please note, if your domain is still hosted externally, enter the server name of your hosting package here, for example: h9.mijn.host.

POP3 port

SMTP port

587 with SSL/TLS (465 with SSL/TLS if you receive an error message)


Please note that an SSL connection is required for these settings because the traffic goes over secured ports.

The email protocols and ports

Below is a brief explanation of the email protocols and the corresponding ports:


POP/POP3

The POP protocol retrieves all email from the mail server.

  • Port 110: Is the standard port without security.
  • Port 995: This is the SSL encrypted and therefore secure connection. This port is recommended by mijn.host.

 

IMAP

IMAP is responsible for the synchronization of all email on the mail server.

  • Port 143: Is the standard port without security.
  • Port 993: This is the SSL encrypted and therefore secure connection. This port is recommended by mijn.host.

 

SMTP

SMTP ensures that all emails are sent.

  • Port 25 Is the standard port without security.
  • Port 587: This is the TLS encrypted and therefore secure connection. This port is recommended by mijn.host.
  • Port 465: This is the TLS/SSL encrypted and therefore also a secure connection.

For domain names, do not forget to also check the POP, IMAP, and SMTP protocols.
