How do I create an email address?

In this article we explain how to create an email address. In this article we assume that you already have a hosting package with a domain name.

Create a new email address

Log in to the control panel and in the menu click on "Hosting". Now click on your hosting package.

In the Hosting package menu, then click on "Email" and then on the submenu item "Email accounts". Here you will see an overview of all your previously created email addresses.

To create a new email address, click on "Actions" at the top right and then in the submenu on "Add email account". Fill in the following fields here:

  • Domain name
    Choose the domain name for which you want to create an email address.
  • Email address
    This will be the email address on which you can send and receive email.
  • Password
    This will be the password for your email account. We recommend choosing a strong password.
  • Mailbox size
    Enter a number here for how large your mailbox can be. Leave this field empty if you do not want to set a limit (the limit of your hosting package will then be used).
  • Sending limit
    Enter the maximum number of emails this email account is allowed to send per month here.

Click on the "Add" button to create this email account. You can now add the email account in your mail client, such as Outlook or your mail client in iOS or Android.

Create an email address in DirectAdmin

Below we explain how to create an email address in DirectAdmin.

  1. Log in to DirectAdmin. Don't know how to do that? Click here: Logging in to DirectAdmin
  2. Click in the menu on E-Mail Manager and then E-Mail Accounts
  1. Click on Create Account at the top right
  2. Here you enter the desired name for your email address. In the example we use contact.
    Enter a password or generate one automatically with the button to the left of the password field.
    Choose the size for your mailbox in MB. The default is 1024 (1GB).
  3. If you generated a password automatically, you can see it by clicking the eye icon on the right.
  4. Click on create account to create your email address.
  5. You will see a pop-up with the details you need for your mail client. (Outlook/Mail/Thunderbird etc.)
  1. And now you are done. You have now created an email account via DirectAdmin.

Change password or name via DirectAdmin

You can also change your email address or change the password via DirectAdmin.

  1. Go to your E-Mail Accounts in DirectAdmin
  2. To the right of the email address you will see a plus sign.
  3. When you click on this you can change the size of the mailbox, the name or the password.
  4. If you want to change the password or the name click on: Change Password/Username
  5. You will be taken to a field to change the name or the password.
    Make the change you want and press save.
  6. If you want to change your mailbox size, click on: Change limits

Choose your new size or click Max for unlimited (unlimited is the capacity of your entire hosting package) and press save.

  1. You are done. You have now changed your email address.
