Automatic email forwarding (forward/alias)

It can be useful to automatically forward emails to another email address. For example, when multiple email addresses are known to your customers or when you do not want to check multiple mailboxes and want to maintain an overview. Below we explain how you can forward an email address to one or more email addresses.

Please note, forwarding to a Gmail or Hotmail email address can sometimes cause some problems. These mail clients scan incoming mail for spam and sometimes see email addresses originating from a hosting server as spam.

Log in to DirectAdmin

Step one is logging in to DirectAdmin. You can access DirectAdmin by clicking on Hosting in the mijn.host control panel and then clicking on the notepad icon of your hosting package on the right. Then scroll down and open DirectAdmin.

Set up mail forwarder

In DirectAdmin, start by choosing the correct domain. You can click on the current domain at the top right to select another domain.

Then click on 'Forwarders' in the menu bar under E-mail Manager. Next, click on Create E-mail Forwarder. In this screen you can configure the forwarder.

In the first field, enter the email address from which you want to forward emails, so this is always linked to your domain. In the field below, enter the email address to which you want to send the emails. This can be an internal email address or an external one. Then click on add and create. You can also easily set up multiple forwarders. Simply add all email addresses to which you want to send your emails.

Testing your configured forwarders

We recommend testing your newly configured forwarders. You can do this by sending some emails to the address for which you set up the forwarders and checking if they arrive at the correct destination.
