Domain and hosting are two different things

Your domain is your address on the internet. Your hosting is where your website and emails actually live. The connection between the two is controlled by the domain's name servers (DNS).

When you choose a registrar, you only move the administration of the domain – that is, who renews it and sends the invoice. The name servers and all DNS settings stay as they are. That is why the domain still points to the same website and the same email solution afterwards.

Using an external DNS provider?
