Connect a domain name to Wix

If you have created a website at Wix and have a domain name at mijn.host that you want to make available for Wix, we explain how to do this in this article.

Please note: To connect your website at Wix to a domain name, you need a 'Premium Plan' at Wix, which is a paid service at Wix. We have no influence on this. We only provide support on a domain level.

There are 2 ways you can connect your domain name to Wix. By changing the nameservers or by changing DNS records. The nameservers determine where the DNS settings of your domain name can be managed. You can use the nameservers of Wix, or use our nameservers. In the latter case, you only need to change the DNS settings at mijn.host.

Option 1: Configure DNS records at mijn.host

To change the DNS records at mijn.host, it is important to first request the DNS records from Wix. First log into your Dashboard at Wix. Now click on 'Settings' on the left side and then on 'Domains'.

Now click on 'Connect a domain you already own'.

You will now see a step-by-step plan. In step 3 you will see the DNS records that you need to set up for your domain name at mijn.host. To do this, log into the control panel at mijn.host. Then click on your domain name, and on the top right on DNS settings.

You will now see the DNS records for your domain name. Here you enter the DNS records you see in Wix, as in this example. Please note: do not copy these records, but use the records you see yourself in Wix.

First remove all AAAA records you see in the control panel in mijn.host. Replace the A record that has no name, with the A record from Wix.

Create a new CNAME record, with the name www and as value the value from Wix (for example www100.wixdns.net).

See below for an example of correctly configured DNS records in combination with Wix.

Click on 'Save' at the bottom right.

Now go back to the Wix step-by-step plan and in step 4 click on 'Verify Connection'.

After a few seconds, you will see a confirmation from Wix. Your domain name is now successfully connected to your Wix website. If you have not yet published your Wix website, you can do this now by going to the 'Editor' within Wix and clicking on 'Publish' here.

It can take up to 24 hours before your Wix website is accessible from your domain name.

Set up nameservers at Wix

Enter the following details here. For 'Profile name', enter 'Wix'. Next, fill in the first row of the following columns with the nameserver. In our case, that is ns8.wixdns.net and ns9.wixdns.net. You do not need to fill in the other columns (IPv4 and IPv6). These will be automatically populated if they are available.

See this example for a correctly configured nameserver profile.

Click on 'Save changes' at the bottom right. The profile has now been successfully created.

Now we are going to activate the created nameserver profile for your domain name in our control panel. To do this, go to your domain name via 'My domain names' and click on your domain name.

Under the heading 'Domain name settings', click on 'Edit' next to the 'Nameserver profile' line.

A popup will now appear where you can select nameserver profiles. Choose the created nameserver profile 'Wix' from this list. And click on 'Save changes'.

You have now successfully changed the nameservers of your domain name. Now return to the Wix step-by-step guide and click on 'Verify Connection' in step 4. If you receive a message that the nameservers are not yet correctly configured, please try again in an hour. Sometimes there is a delay.
